March Madness

We interrupt this marriage to bring you March.  March is really the culmination of all things Craig.  Bowling season is wrapping up,  and the weather is nice enough to allow for golf on Saturdays.  And last, but certainly not least, March Madness.  If you’re anything like me you’re not entirely sure what that means other than a lot of basketball.  Let me try to get you up to speed.

This Sunday is Selection Sunday.  Selection Sunday is where the college basketball teams are seeded (and others are snubbed) for the NCAA Basketball Tournament.  To find out more about this year’s tournament and get some good water cooler material check out this article which notes the top 10 things that will happen on Selection Sunday.  Then it happens, the bracket is set.  I encourage all you ladies, fill out a bracket. There’s no science behind it.  Pick your favorite mascot, your favorite uniform colors, make stuff up.  Having a bracket helps you to at least have a vested interest in what’s more than likely going to be on your TV for the next month or so.  The games are held across the country and start on the 19th during the second and third rounds (where the first round went, I’m not really sure).  Next Thursday and Friday, the games start at noon and last until midnight.  It’s true madness if you’re a basketball fan (never mind a Kentucky fan).  Nevertheless, get thru the first and second rounds, and you get into the Sweet 16 (March 26th-27th) immediately followed by the Elite 8 (March 28th-29th).  The last four teams get a week off before they head back to the court for The Final Four on the 4th of April.  Fitting.  March Madness actually stretches into April.  The grand finale happens on the 6th of April.  Whoever wins is the NCAA champion.  And they’re probably going to Disney World.

Still confused?  Shout out an occasional “3 seconds!” or “Get your eyes checked ref!” during a game.  You’ll fit right in.  Honestly, basketball fan or no, it’s one of the most exciting sporting events of the year.  There will be upsets and there will likely be a “Cinderella” (a long shot team that catches lightning in a bottle for a few games) to cheer for.  The best thing about this tournament is that any one of 64 teams can win it all.  You just need six wins in a row.  So, fill out a bracket and enjoy the madness.

  1. I love your enthusiasm. We just had dinner with friends and talked a lot about march madness. Sure wish I had read this post before dinner so I could not have to pretend I knew what they were talking about...I would have actually known!
