On Tuesday I talked about tiny houses and touched on the
journey we have been on with our addition/remodel. From the sketch on the
napkin, to full- blown design drawings (some arguments), to ground break,
construction, etc. It’s a process. Craig is a design professional
and works for an architecture firm. I just think I’m good at
decorating. We spent countless hours going over and over and over every
detail that went into the house.
Let’s start at the very beginning when I moved into my
husband's house. We knew the smaller space would only be temporary but we
weren't sure if we would eventually move or
build (add). We decided to focus on making updates to the existing house
that we could enjoy and at the same time would appeal
to future buyers. We decided it was best
to get some advice from folks that do this kind of thing everyday. We scheduled some time with a local (two blocks away) real
estate agent to walk through the house and give us an “as is” market value. The
agent was very helpful as she indicated to us what our house would sell for and
what she thought we could do with the existing structure to add the most market
value. She helped us understand where we would see financial return and
where we would not. We also did our research online reading tips and tricks for home value improvements. After
doing all the research we decided the best thing to do was to start by giving
our kitchen a facelift. Next week I’ll
share more about our kitchen updates and some of the lessons learned!
Are you thinking about updating your house for resale? Make
sure you turn to the experts. They
understand and can explain market trends in your neighborhood. And they can help you work through some of
the best options for you and your home.
